This photograph shows the medieval castle of the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour in southwest France. The motif was created in August 2017 with the Nikon D90 during my photography and holiday trip through southwestern France (ROCAMADOUR is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). France is famous for its numerous, well-preserved medieval villages - and Rocamadour is definitely one of the most beautiful! The location on a steep limestone cliff alone leaves the visitor speechless, simply pure magic! In addition, the village has been an important place of pilgrimage for over 1,000 years: Even today, countless pilgrims and tourists still find their way to the picturesque Rocamadour every year. With around 600 inhabitants, Rocamadour is not exactly big, but it has a lot of sights to offer. Furthermore, the village extends over three different levels. On the lowest level is the historic village center, on the middle level, the sacred level, there are seven different churches and on the upper level is the Château de Rocamadour. The historic village center of Rocamadour is a real eye-catcher. It impresses with its numerous medieval houses and allows you to immerse yourself in a bygone era. In a unique atmosphere with a lot of magic you can stroll through the narrow streets and let the medieval flair work its magic on you.
